About me

My Story

I have always been drawn to a career focused on helping others realize their personal dreams and potential. After earning a BA in Psychology and an MSW in Clinical Social work, I had initially envisioned work with older children and families. However, following my own powerful birth experience, for which I was accompanied by a warm and caring midwife and birth doula, I realized that the world of early beginnings was right for me. I began planning my career as a doula.

Over time, I have focused my interests into a career by staying abreast of important birth-related topics such as breech birth, cesarean birth, VBAC, and home births. My younger boys, fraternal twins, were born via a gestational carrier, and were an impetus to my learning more about issues concerning surrogacy, adoption, induced lactation, and milk donation. A few personal losses led me to explore more of the realm of the fertility world, and gain training in that. I've come to understand both personally and professionally the varied beautiful and complex meanings "birth" has for people, and am passionate about helping mothers and their partners realize their own vision for growing a family.

I have worked hard to continue my education, and am now a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) and postpartum doula as well!

My Philosophy

As a doula, it is my job to help you have the birth you want. I share my knowledge and training to help you make informed decisions along your path to parenthood, no matter what route you choose. I support all types of families, traditional and non-traditional, and all types of births. I work in hospitals, birth centers, and homebirths, and I collaborate with all types of birthworkers and practitioners.

“Some people just have the know-how to say and do the right thing at the right time. Shana is that person. With a warm smile, she is caring and compassionate and will do everything it takes to give you the birth experience you've always wanted ”. Rachel F.
